Letter From The Editor

Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire:  it is the time for home.  ~Edith Sitwell

Dear Readers,

Now that we’re in the thick of winter—the hustle and bustle of the holidays a distant
memory—some of us turn inward looking for motivation to get those indoor projects done. (Maybe this will actually be the winter I catch up on my scrapbooking…) Of course, we recognize that there are also those who don’t mind being out and about during this frosty season, so we have tried to balance our winter issue with something for everyone.

Have you been looking at your kitchen lately and realizing it may need a facelift? If so, don’t miss Nancy Moffett’s “Spruce up your Kitchen” in our Home department. For more home improvement inspiration, turn to Lori McLaughlin’s “Design Solutions for a More Beautiful Home,” which offers tips from area experts on ways to get creative with paint, window treatments and furniture arranging. Sometimes working with what you have can work wonders…

Ready for a night out? We’re not at a loss for places to have a good time in the Lehigh Valley. Check out Frederick Jerant’s article in our Local Color department about The State Theatre Center for the Arts. This is one of my favorite venues for high-quality entertainment, whether it’s for a family night out, a date night or an evening with friends. If it’s just you and the girls, don’t miss Mary Beth Schwartz’s report on “Girls’ Night Out” for some great out-of-the-box options.  And if we still haven’t struck your fancy, read on for more in “Winter Fun…Indoors!” by Sara Vigneri.

We would be remiss this month if we didn’t talk about Valentine’s Day, a holiday that can cause quite the conundrum where gift-giving is concerned. Sara Hodon talked with area experts to take the “intimidation factor” out of your gift-giving experience in “Valentine’s Day Gifts.” Perhaps a subtle hint is all your special someone needs…

And of course, we’re proud to bring you—once again—the best of the area’s culinary talent in the second edition of Good Taste. We have included even more restaurants for your perusal this year along with over 50 recipes and several articles on a variety of topics. Make sure to read your copy—which was included along with your Winter issue of Lehigh Valley Marketplace—and visit lehighvalleygoodtaste.com for more information.

What’s your pleasure this winter? Cozying up indoors or getting out and enjoying yourself despite the wintery weather? E-mail me or take our survey at lehighvalleymarketplace.com.

I want to know—because you live here!
