Letter From the Editor August 2016

Dear readers,

Most people who know me know that I am seldom at a loss for words. When I write my letters to you, the words flow and I find I have to circle back many times to get to my point in a more succinct way. However, I must admit this month when I sat down to write, the words just would not come. I’m pretty sure it was because the lazy days of summer have really set in. Focusing on work, cleaning or just about anything but having fun is really tough.

So, to cure my stupor, I decided to grab my family and go outside. It definitely cured what ailed me. I got to check the box on family time and on being active. It gave me energy to get focused again. If you are falling prey to the laziness that sets in with summer, I encourage you to do the same.

There are so many things to explore and activities in which to participate this August, you may find it hard to choose just one. So don’t. If you want to try new cuisine, explore nature or tap into one of the nation’s largest music festivals, you can do it all in the Lehigh Valley. There’s VegFest, Musikfest, Beer Fest and the Cheese and Garlic Fest. Check out these great ideas of fun outdoor activities you’ll find in our own backyard. Turn to page 40 for more.

And then, to finish off your day in perfect fashion, why not indulge in the season’s favorite treat? Nothing says summer like a double-scoop of your favorite ice cream.

So readers, I invite you to slip off the sofa, slather on the sunscreen and scoot outside for a day of fun in the sun.
